Modi government neglected Uttar Pradesh: Shivpal Singh Yadav

Terming the Narendra Modi government as a "total failure", senior Uttar Pradesh minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saturday alleged that it has neglected the state the most despite the prime minister and several other ministers being elected to the Lok Sabha from here.

Lucknow: Terming the Narendra Modi government as a "total failure", senior Uttar Pradesh minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saturday alleged that it has neglected the state the most despite the prime minister and several other ministers being elected to the Lok Sabha from here.

"This government is a total failure...Only Modi saheb is touring the world with capitalists...It has done no work for the farmers, poor and common people in the one year (in power)...None of the promises made by them have been fulfilled till now," Yadav said.

He was responding to a question on the NDA government's performance in the backdrop of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi giving it a zero.

"What does he do in foreign countries, you find it out... Uttar Pradesh has been the most neglected despite it being the most important and the biggest state in the country...The prime minister and other ministers come from here," he said.

On the achievements of the Modi government in the past one year, he said "Till now nothing has been done for the people to my knowledge."

The minister also charged the Centre with not extending adequate help for the farmers affected by unseasonal rains and hailstorm.

"Only Rs 253 crore have been given by the government of India to the state which is a part of routine funds," he said, adding, several union ministers and officials have also visited affected areas in the state.

"Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had however claimed that the state has been given Rs 508 crore," Yadav added.

To a question on the meeting of constituents of Janata Pariwar in New Delhi yesterday, Shivpal Singh said Mulayam Singh Yadav was designated as leader of the proposed entity after consultation among all members.

"Several issues were discussed, including UP and Bihar where assembly elections are due, and all have authorised Netaji (Mulayam)...A meeting was held this morning too," Yadav said.

To a question on symbol and name of the proposed alliance not being decided, Yadav said these are technical issues which have to be decided by the Election Commission and Netaji is holding discussions over the same.

"Good results are likely...Netaji has to decide...There is no need to worry," he said.

On the likelihood of former colleague Amar Singh's return to the Samajwadi Party, Yadav said it is for party chief Mulayam Sing Yadav and Amar Singh to decide on it.

"We have good relations with Amar Singhji...Yesterday also Netaji had a talk with him for over two hours...The doors of SP are never closed," he added.
