Aligarh: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday cautioned people against "external and internal" designs which cause animosity between different sections and said it was imperative for all the sections to remain united for broader national interest.
It is imperative that all sections in the country remain "united and join hands in the common national interest," Yadav said while addressing the 4th Annual Convocation of Mangalayatan University here.
Yadav, however, said that it was "not necessary at this juncture to name these forces" because the people of the country had wisdom to understand who they are and how they pose a threat to the society.
On the occasion, Mangalayatan University awarded Honoris Causa degrees to a number of prominent national personalities in different fields and also to the winners of medals in this year?s London Olympics.
Yadav emphasised that certain sections which have not succeeded in the political arena are indulging in activities which would have a divisive fall out in society, he said.
"Instead of working at cross purposes we are prepared to engage in a dialogue with such misguided sections so that we can identify a common ground for the broader common interest of the people," Yadav said.
The SP government was "fully aware" of the activities of those forces which were trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
"I do not wish to launch a media offensive against such forces but I would like to caution such sections not to indulge in such pernicious activities," he said.
Referring to the challenges posed in the field of modern education, Yadav said that the private sector had now emerged as a "major player" in the sphere of higher education.
Yadav said the private sector will have to understand "the responsibility" which has fallen on its shoulder, especially in the rural areas which is still way behind the rest of the country in the field of health and education.
Among those awarded Honoris Causa degrees were Dr Rajendra Pachori, Director General, Energy and Resources` Institute and V K Saraswat, Scientific Advisor in the Ministry of Defence, Salma Ansari, Chairperson, Al-Noor Social and Charitable Society in the field of social work and Dr (Mrs) Tessy Thomas, Senior Defence Scientist.
The sports personalities conferred honorary degrees, included Saina Nahwal (Badminton), Mary Kom (Boxer), Sushil Kumar (Wrestler), Gagan Narang (Shooter), Vijay Kumar (Shooter) and Jogeswar Dutt (Wrestler).
