Mulayam warns UP ministers against ‘firing’
Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Monday that celebratory gun firing or fireworks by the supporters of new ministers will not be tolerated at any cost.
Lucknow: Concerned over the growing negative publicity of the conduct of the newly sworn-in ministers of the Samajwadi Party, party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Monday that celebratory gun firing or fireworks by the supporters of new ministers will not be tolerated at any cost.
“People have sent us for their service. If any minister who indulges in celebratory firing or fireworks we will take action against that minister,” Mulayam said.
“I saw it (images of supporters of a minister firing in the air) running on TV. I am against firing. I have been CM many times, but there was never any firing,” he said while addressing a press conference here.
Mulayam’s strict warning gains importance in view of negative publicity being attarceted by the new government ever since the party won back Uttar Pradesh in a landslide.
Chief Minister Akhlilesh Yadav, who was also present during the press conference today, has also been at the forefront of the endeavour to steer clear the government’s image of any taint.
However, considering the fact that most of the minister’s inducted in his cabinet are party old timers, Mulayam’s warning appears to have been necessary to rein in them.
