Allahabad: An undertrial, accused of murdering a Hindu priest on Tuesday, tried to hang himself on the premises of Naini Central Jail here.

Rajesh went to the toilet last night and tried to hang himself with a muffler which, however, snapped and he fell injuring himself, said Ambrish Gaur, Superintendent of the prison situated on the outskirts of the city.

He was rushed to a hospital in the city and later brought back, the officer said, adding that one more case under Section 309 of the IPC (punishment for attempted suicide) was slapped against Rajesh.

He was arrested from Delhi earlier this week for the murder of Ratneshwarananda who was hacked to death on Tuesday inside a camp set up by Manav Samaj Utthan Samiti near the holy Sangam here.

Rajesh was a sevadar at the Samiti, an NGO-cum-spiritual organisation. He had accompanied Ratneswharanand, a senior functionary of the NGO, during his visit from Delhi to Allahabad for the Mauni Amavasya bathing festival.

Rajesh had a tiff with Ratneshwaranand, who was found murdered on early Tuesday.
