Muzaffarnagar Live: Death toll mounts to 31, PM talks to Akhilesh Yadav

Muzaffarnagar: With the situation remaining tense in violence hit Muzaffarnagar, the Uttar Pradesh government has made the troubled town out of bounds for politicians of all hues. After RLD Chief Ajit was detained at Ghaziabad border, the UP police also denied entry into Muzaffarnagar to a BJP delegation led by senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Ajit Singh’s son Jayant Chaudhary was also detained while he was on his way to Muzaffarnagar. Another RLD leader Munna Singh Chauhan was detained with Chaudhary. A delegation of state Congress leaders was also prevented from entering the area
Meanwhile, the death toll in the deadly clashes has risen to 31. With fears mounting on further trouble, scores of people have left their homes and moved to safer locations.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav called for restraint from political parties even as four BJP MLAs, one former Congress MP and 40 others were booked for allegedly inciting communal violence.
Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi has sent a report to the Union Home Ministry in which he has reportedly slammed the state government for its inability to contain the violence. Joshi has also called for more forces in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas. Curfew has been imposed in three police station areas - Civil Lines, Kotwali and Nai Mandi- with schools and colleges shut for the next three days in the entire city. The Army is carrying out flag marches in the entire region.
