Muzaffarnagar: A year after riots broke out in the district, claims for compensation by the people effected from Hasanpur village have been accepted by the district authorities here.
The district authorities have recommended the state government to give compensation to 101 people, who were displaced from Hasanpur village and live at Jolla village in the district, District Magistrate of Shamli P K Singh told reporters here today.
The displaced victims who were living in Jolla village had claimed that they are also riot victims?and they should be provided compensation but the district authorities had turned down their claim saying they did not belong to the identified riot-effected villages, he said.
Thereafter, the victims approached the minorities commission but the commission directed a reinquiry into their claim, following which the state government constituted a committee led by Divisional Commissioner of Moradabad Shivshaner Singh.
During the inquiry last month, the committee found that the claimants are riot victims and they have the right to get compensation.
After getting the committee report, district authorities recommended for compensation and demanded funds from the state government.
More than 60 people were killed and 40,000 displaced during riots in Muzaffarnagar district and neigbouring areas in September last.
