Lucknow: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Swami Omvesh was arrested by police on Monday for allegedly making provocative speeches in Muzaffarnagar that led to communal tensions in the area.
Omvesh is the fourth political leader to have been arrested on allegations of inciting communal violence in the districy.
Uttar Pradesh BJP legislators, Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana, were earlier arrested after a court issued a warrant against them.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Noor Salim Rana has also been arrested in connection with the riots.
Communal violence in Muzaffarnagar earlier this month has left more than 45 people dead and hundreds have fled their homes in fear.
