Muzaffarnagar riots: Two released from jail

A former gram pradhan and an Imam in a local mosque, both accused in Muzaffarnagar riots and detained under the National Security Act, have been released, police said on Thursday.

Muzaffarnagar: A former gram pradhan and an Imam in a local mosque, both accused in Muzaffarnagar riots and detained under the National Security Act, have been released, police said on Thursday.

Vikram Saini and Hafis Makkaram, detained under the Act after violence in Kawal village during the riots, were released yesterday.

According to jailor Mizazilal, Saini was released from Hamirpur Jail while Maukkaram was released from Muzaffarnagar District Jail.

Three youths Shanwaz, Gaurav, and Sachin were killed at Kawal village on August 28 last year, following which the two were detained under National Security Act by the district authorities in Kawal on August 29.
