Lucknow: BJP leader Uma Bharti on Wednesday challenged the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh to arrest the leaders from her party in the wake of warrants against them for inciting violence in Muzaffarnagar.
Talking to mediapersons in Lucknow she said, "If BJP MLAs are arrested then the SP government will have to face consequences."
"No arrests can be made without proper investigation," she added and accused the Akhilesh government of targeting only the BJP leaders.
She also said that if BJP leaders were guilty of what they have been charged then senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was equally guilty of the same crime.
Uma led the protests of BJP workers here outside the state Assembly today.
Sangeet Som, the BJP MLA from Sardana, who is one of the prime accused, has been accused of circulating a fake video online that is said to have incited violence in Muzaffarnagar district. He is alleged to have said that the video was of lynching of two Hindu boys in the district. However, the video is said to be two years old and supposedly originated from Pakistan.
Meanwhile, taking to the media, Som said that he had done no wrong and that he was ready to be arrested and was not in hiding.
Other BJP MLAs against whom warrant have been issued are Bhartendu Singh, Hukum Singh and Suresh Rana.
