Nabard commits Rs 2000 cr for UP during current fiscal

 Rural lender NABARD has committed a sum of Rs 2000 crore for new projects in Uttar Pradesh for 2014-1015.

Lucknow: Rural lender NABARD has committed a sum of Rs 2000 crore for new projects in Uttar Pradesh for 2014-1015.

Against this, projects worth Rs 604 crore have already been sanctioned including irrigation project in Gorakhpur on Ghaghra river besides those worth Rs 300 crore that are in process presently, a release issued by NABARD here said today.

In addition to the traditional activities, NABARD has extended a separate line of credit for developing cold and dry storage capacity in the state. A sum of Rs 260 crore has been earmarked for the purpose.

NABARD has sanctioned Rs 16,826 crore to UP government cumulatively for 66,923 infrastructure projects over a period spanning more than 19 years, it said.

Projects covering important sectors, viz. Irrigation, flood protection, watershed, rural connectivity, animal husbandry, forestry and construction of secondary school buildings were among those for which funds were given, the release added.
