Kolkata: Veteran medium pacer Ranadeb Bose has been dropped from the 15-member Bengal squad that will play against Baroda in their final Ranji Trophy group league encounter in Vadodara from December 21.
Bose was dropped from the playing XI against Delhi – a first for him in more than a decade.
Although many people believe that it is end of the road for one of the most loyal servants of Bengal cricket, chairman of selectors Deep Dasgupta on his part said, "I don`t believe it`s end of the road. He has been a performer and can certainly make a comeback. At this point of time, may be his current form doesn`t ensure a place for him but no one would ever question his class."
Of the other two changes in the squad, young Writam Porel has been dropped after he failed to get going in five consecutive innings. His place has been taken by Gitimoy Bose while Subhamoy Das has fractured his finger and will now be replaced by Sudeep Chatterjee. In place of Bose, the selectors have included U-22 batsman Jayojit Basu.
The Squad: Sourav Ganguly (c), Arindam Das, Shreevats Goswami, Manoj Tiwary, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Mohammad Shami Ahmed, Anustup Mujumder, Ashok Dinda, Iresh Saxena, Sourav Sarkar, Arnab Nandy, Veer Pratap Singh, Sayan Sekhar Mondal, Gitimoy Bose, Sudip Chatterjee and Jayojt Basu.
