NHRC to discuss report on Bhatta-Parsaul violence

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will soon discuss a report prepared by its investigation team on the violence over land acquisition in two villages in Greater Noida.

New Delhi: The National Human Rights
Commission (NHRC) will soon discuss a report prepared by its
investigation team on the violence over land acquisition in
two villages in Greater Noida.
The NHRC team which investigated violence over land
acquisition in Bhatta-Parsaul in Uttar Pradesh`s Greater Noida
has finalised its report which will be placed for
consideration of the Full Commission shortly, an NHRC
spokesperson said.

Earlier the NHRC has denied reports that its team had
ruled out rape in the villages during the farmers` stir in
May, saying the report was not prepared.

Reports suggested that the NHRC team ruled out rape of
women by policemen in two villages of Greater Noida debunking
a claim by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Centre had cast
doubts over the veracity of the content of the report.

A "pained" NHRC has sent the team to investigate
allegations of violence over land acquisition and complaints
of police atrocities in Greater Noida. Four persons, including
two policemen, were killed in farmers-police clashes and
firing in Bhatta-Parsaul villages.
Gandhi, after a visit to the village, had claimed that
women had been raped, people thrashed and houses destroyed.
