Kanpur: A court today sentenced nine persons
to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 28,000 each in
connection with the murder of a scheduled caste man in Kanpur
Dehat district in 2006.
According to the prosecution, an enmity had developed
between Shashi Pandey and Chhunna Tewari when the former won
the election of gram pradhan in Kumharian village of
On January 6, 2006, Pandey was going somewhere along with
his domestic help Kallu when Tewari and his aides opened fire
on the duo. While Pandey sustained bullet injuries, Kallu died
on the spot, it said.
Pandey had lodged an FIR against nine persons including
Tewari. The case was transferred to the SC/ST court in Kanpur
Dehat, for Kallu being an SC.
The court convicted all the nine accused in the case and
sentenced them to life imprisonment. It also imposed a fine of
Rs 28,000 on each of the accused.
