Noida Development Authority staff assaulted by farmers

Farmers of a village in Noida assaulted two government employees who had gone there to conduct a survey of land under unauthorized occupation.

Noida: Farmers of a village in Noida on Saturday
assaulted two government employees who had gone there to
conduct a survey of land under unauthorized occupation even as
around one hundred peasants were detained while taking a
silent march to Bhatta Parsaul villages.
Two Noida Development Authority staff Sunil Kumar and
Lala Ram were attacked by residents of Sadarpur village at
around 5.30 pm when they tried to take measurement of land
under unauthorised occupation there.

Farmers claimed the land was their abadi land (land where
settlements are located) whereas the employees insisted that
it was Authority land encroached by farmers who had been
compensated in return for their land decades ago.

The employees, who received minor injuries in the attack,
later lodged a complaint with the police. Some persons have
been detained by the police in connection with the incident.
Over one hundred farmers were detained about 200 metres
away from the collectorate in Greater Noida while taking out a
silent march to Bhatta Parsaul villages, the epicentre of a
recent farmers` stir over land aquisition in which four
persons were killed in clashes between police and protestors.

They had covered the distance forcibly by pushing the
police force. However, they were taken to the police line and
released later.
