A notorious criminal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was on Sunday killed in an encounter with police in Ghaziabad.

cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was on Sunday killed in an
encounter with police in Ghaziabad.

Ajay alias Akash (32), who had 20 cases against him in
Uttar Pradesh, was shot dead in an exchange of fire with
police this morning in the jungles of Madapur village in
Ghaziabad, Additional Director of Police (law and order) Brij
Lal told reporters here.

Describing the chain of events, he said when police tried
to intercept a car at Chitaarji cut during a routine checking,
its occupants opened fire at the personnel and sped away.

"The police team chased the car and Ajay was killed in
the exchange of fire," the officer said, adding his associate
managed to flee.

A 9 mm pistol and several cartridges were recovered from
his possession, Lal said.

"Besides UP, Ajay was also active in Haryana and Delhi,"
he said, adding the criminal was behind the abduction of
manager of prime gold factory Sanjay Tyagi in Pilkhua in
March.
