Fatehabad: Adequate compensation
will be paid for the land to be acquired for setting up a
nuclear power plant here, Congress MP Ashok Tanwar assured
agitating farmers today.

The farmers are staging a sit-in at the mini
secretariat here to protest acquisition of their land for the
plant to be set up at village Gorakhpur-Kumharia.

Assuring farmers that all their apprehensions would be
removed, Tanwar, an MP from Sirsa, said adequate compensation
would be paid to them for acquisition of their land.

Nearly 1400 acres of land would be acquired for the
plant and the process for acquisition had already started, he
said.

He, however, said there was need to evolve a consensus
on the matter and asked farmers to submit a list of their
objections to concerned authorities.

Tanwar said the commissioning of the power plant would
usher a new era of development in the area.

"Gorakhpur-Kumharia will be linked with the world
after setting up of the plant which will estimated to cost
Rs 12,000 crore," he said.

The interest of farmers would be fully protected, the
MP said.
