One more person dies in UP, rain-related toll rises to 146

The toll in rain-related mishaps in Uttar Pradesh rose to 146 on Friday after one more person was killed in the state which was hit by moderate to heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.

The latest casualty was reported in Siddharthnagar where a person is said to have drowned in flood waters, the relief commissioner`s office stated.

In the rainfall that occurred overnight, Mankapur recorded showers measuring 110mm while Mathura and Bijnore got 90mm each.

Sitapur and Kaiserganj received 80mm each while Kanpur and Amroha both reported 70mm rainfall.

The forecast is for rain and thundershowers across the state with heavy to very heavy showers likely at one or two places in western UP.

Heavy rain is also expected at one or two place over eastern UP over the coming two days.

Central Water Commission (CWC) sources, meanwhile, said that the Sharda and Ghaghra rivers continued to flow above the danger mark in the state.

Also, Ganga was flowing close to the danger mark at Fatehgarh, Ankinghat and Kanpur while the Sharda had breached the red mark at Palia Kalan.

Ghaghra was flowing above the red mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, at Ayodhya and at Turtipar in Ballia, CWC sources said adding that the Rapti, too, was flowing near the danger level at Shrawasti, Balrampur, Bansi and Birdghat (Gorakhpur).
