Nagpur: The newly elected Rajya Sabha MP
from city, Avinash Pande would continue to work in Uttar
Pradesh to strengthen the party base and would also
concentrate on youth policy in the Parliament.

Pande was elected unanimously to the Rajya Sabha
recently.

"I have been assigned to strengthen the Congress base
in UP. As part of it, presently I am engaged in organising
various functions, awareness programmes and bringing
intellectuals to party forum during the 125th anniversary
celebrations of Congress there," Pande, who arrived here today
to a big reception, told reporters.

Congress has chalked out various programmes in UP for
the 125th anniversary throughout the year and he would like to
give priority to the party work first. Pande, a former MLA
from Nagpur-East, returns to electoral politics after a
span of more than 25 years.

He said it would not affect his Parliament role since
he was carrying out party work as All India Congress Committee
Secretary from Congress headquarters and would always be
available for the Parliament assignments.

Pande, a former president of State Youth Congress and
also NSUI, has recently resigned from the post of Chairman of
the state-owned Maharashtra Small Scale Industrial Corporation
(MSSIDC) before his elevation to Rajya Sabha.
