Mathura: Panic gripped neighbourhood of Mathura Refinery over reports that a wild beast - maybe a leopard or a tiger - was spotted around it. Refinery officials, however, scoffed at rumours, saying there was no proof.

The wild beast entered Mathura Refinery complex late Sunday, people said.

Panic-stricken residents sought help of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and the forest guards, who combed the entire area but could not confirm whether the suspected creature was indeed a leopard or a tiger, who could have lost its way from a Rajasthan wild life sanctuary.

A police official told the media Wednesday that no trace of a wild animal has been found. While refinery official Mahesh Chandra said there was no proof of any wild animal entering the refinery premises.
