Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that when Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on September 29 then whole Varanasi was filled with happiness.

''"Hum Kashiwalon ne 'chhoti diwali' mana li. Yaha apne jo choti Diwali manai thi uske liye mai aap sabhi ka aabhar karta hu (We people of Varanasi have already celebrated choti Diwali. I am grateful to you)," he said speaking on the occasion of inauguration of Urja Ganga project.

"After a long time the 1.25 billion people of the country have been able to convey to the Army and our jawans that they are with them," the PM added.

PM Modi further said, "As your MP, I am proud of how you paid tributes to armed forces and expressed your support to them. We will send a message to our security forces this Diwali as they fight for us day and night. Give a missed call on 1922, download the Narendra Modi App and through the App you can send Diwali greetings to the soldiers."

He also said, "Schemes must be implemented and inaugurated on time, there must not be any delay in this and that is what my government is doing. We don't stop our work just at laying foundation stones; we ensure that the projects are also completed. Schemes are not about publishing advertisements in newspapers. Real aim of initiatives is proper execution, touching people's lives."

Meanwhile, speaking earlier today in Mahoba, he made an impassioned appeal to the people of the state to "come out of the trap of SP and BSP" and vote for BJP this time to usher in a corruption-free environment.

"UP has seen a lot of politics. All types of games have been played here. Those who wanted to play have played, those who wanted to get (something), they have got. Sometimes SP and then BSP, their world have moved, but yours have not changed. If you want to make UP a Uttam Pradesh in next 10 years, come out from the trap of SP and BSP," PM Modi said at a public meeting.

Claiming that SP and BSP that have ruled the state alternately in the past 15 years are hand-in-gloves in hiding each other's corruption, he said that whenever elections came both these parties raise corruption cases of each other, but did not act after they assumed office.

"Has BSP sent any SP man to jail in its five-year regime? Now they (SP) are also doing the same. These SP and BSP men used to confuse (the people). This game of SP and BSP is going on in the state. It has ruined the state," he said.

Noting that not a single corruption case has come to the fore in his over two-and-a-half years of his government, Modi said, "You can see newspapers of 2014 that were filled with cases of corruption. Now have you heard any corruption case or scam in past two-and-a-half years? There are honest officers and workers in the country but there is a need to empower them," he added, adding the game of corruption going in UP should have to be ended.
