PF scam: Sushma`s bail plea not heard due to SC stay

The bail petition of Sushma Asthana, wife of Ashutosh Asthana, prime accused in the Provident Fund scam, could not be heard in a special CBI court in view of the Supreme Court`s stay on proceedings of PF scam case.

Ghaziabad: The bail petition of Sushma
Asthana, wife of Ashutosh Asthana, prime accused in the
Provident Fund scam, could not be heard in a special CBI court
in view of the Supreme Court`s stay on proceedings of PF scam
case.

"The special CBI court did not hear her application
yesterday, the date fixed for its hearing, due to the July 28
stay on total proceedings by Supreme Court," Sushma`s advocate
Nitin Verma, who moved the application contending that she is
not an accused in the chargesheet filed by the agency on July
3, said.

The court restrained the proceedings in the special CBI
court after the investigating agency sought the transfer of
the case from Ghaziabad to Delhi.

Sushma, who was arrested in February 2008 and in jail
since then, has stated in her application that since CBI has
not named her as an accused in its chargesheet filed against
78 people nor the probe agency intend to investigate matter
further with her, so she should be released.

The prime accused in the multi-crore scam Ashutosh
Asthana, 43, had died under mysterious circumstances on
October 17, 2009, at Dasna district jail in Ghaziabad where he
was lodged in connection with the case.

The accused, who was a treasury officer at the Ghaziabad
court, was arrested in April 2008 for allegedly siphoning off
the provident funds of class III and IV employees.
