The Advisory Committee on Implementation of Drought Mitigation Strategies in Bundelkhand Region will be chaired by Planning Commission Deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, an official statement said.

The setting up of the panel follows the union cabinet's approval of a Rs 766 crore package to devise and implement a drought mitigation strategy in the parched and backward region.

The Bundelkhand region comprises seven districts of Uttar Pradesh - Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur and Mahoba - and six of Madhya Pradesh - Chhatarpur, Damoh, Datia, Panna, Sagar and Tikamgarh.
