Kanpur: Police allegedly resorted to
baton-charge today to disperse the crowd which was opposing
the reopening of the school where a girl was sexually
assaulted on September 27.

An FIR was registered against 26 people under various
sections of the IPC for rioting and disturbing law and order,
police said.

The 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in her
school in Kalyanpur area here on September 27, after which she
died at a hospital the same day.

The girl`s neighbour Munna was later arrested for the
assault, though her mother claimed that he was not the real
culprit.

When the school reopened after 17 days this morning,
the victim`s parents along with some others protested outside
its gate and demanded that the real culprit behind the girl`s
death be arrested.

This resulted in the use of force by the police in
which several people sustain minor injuries.

However, Circle Officer of Kalyanpur Laxmi Narain
Mishra has denied that force was used to disperse the crowd or
that any one was injured.
