Lucknow: Two days after a letter by Uttar
Pradesh BJP dissidents to Nitin Gadkari brought factionalism
in the party`s state unit to the fore, its president Surya
Pratap Shahi on Monday played down the issue saying those behind
the letter did not even belong to the party.
"On inquiry, it has been found that those who had
distributed the copies of the so-called letter addressed to
the national President are not even members of the BJP", Shahi
told newspersons here.
The two-page letter in the name of "UP BJP Bachao
Sangharsh Samiti" and distributed among mediapersons on
Septempber 4 when the Pradesh BJP`s working committee was
going on, had sought the removal of certain office bearers who
they alleged were out to harm the party.
Denying that there was any dissatisfaction in the state
unit, Shahi said it was totally wrong to say that the letters
were distributed at the working committee meeting.
"Some people might have indulged in mischief outside,"
Shahi said referring to the letter which specifically
targeted an organisation general secretray and issue of
sidelining senior leaders in the constitution of the working
He also refused any action against anyone saying that
there was no indiscipline in the party. "Whenever such a
situation arises, suitable action would be taken", he said.
