Daya Shankar, who is vice president of BJP in Uttar Pradesh, said, “Mayawati is a big leader. I have great respect of her. I did not make a personal comment, I was only referring to the irregularities in the distribution of tickets.
“If she or anyone is hurt then I apologize. I have respect for her and I say sorry,” he said.
The matter also found resonance in the Rajya Sabha, forcing Arun Jaitley to come out with a statement condemning the statement.
The senior BJP leader said strict action will be taken against the erring UP BJP leader.
