Rains continue to lash UP

Uttar Pradesh continued to receive rains on Thursday as monsoon remained active over most parts of the state, resulting in moderate to heavy showers at many places.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh continued to receive rains on Thursday as monsoon remained active over most parts of the state, resulting in moderate to heavy showers at many places.

Many major rivers flowing through the state are still in spate, according to a Central Water Commission report.

Meja, Birdghat and Bisalpur received maximum 8 cm of rainfall each, followed by Saharanpur 7 cm, Iglas 6 cm and Soron, Kanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Mawana 5 cm each, the MeT department said.

Gorakhpur, Karhal, Thakudwara, Deoband and Swar received 4 cm of rainfall each, while Phoolpur, Varanasi, Nawabganj, Budhana, Puranpur and Baheri got 3 cm of rainfall each.

The MeT forecast says rain and thundershowers will occur at most places over western UP and at many places over the eastern region of the state during the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, a CWC report said that Ganga is still flowing above the red mark at Ghazipur and Ballia and under the danger mark at Fatehgarh and Kanpur.

Yamuna is close to the red mark at Prayag Ghat (Mathura) and Sharda and Ghaghra continue to flow above the danger mark at Palia Kalan and Elgin Bridge respectively.

Rapti was flowing near the red mark at Bhinga (Shrawasti), and Balrampur and Budhi Rapti have crossed the danger mark at Kakrahi in Siddhartnagar, it said.
