Lucknow: Moderate to heavy showers lashed eastern Uttar Pradesh Monday, an official said.

The rains and gutsy winds sweeping places like Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kanpur and Lucknow brought down day temperatures which were hovering at around 32 degrees Celsius for the last one week.

The Met department has warned of extensive rains in most parts of the state owing to the extremely severe cyclone "Hudhud" that hit coastal areas of Adhra Pradesh and Odisha Sunday.

Regional Met Director JP Gupta told IANS the rains would be accompanied by winds blowing at the speed of 40-60 km per hour.

Western Uttar Pradesh would also be hit by the disturbance caused by Hudhud and moderate rains could occur in places like Agra, Mainpuri, Meerut, Etawah, Mathura and Baghpat, the Met department said.

The changed weather would continue till Thursday, the Met officials said, helping the onset of winter.
