Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam
Singh Yadav on Saturday exhorted partymen to work unitedly and help
realise the dream of late party leader Janeshwar Misra, who
wanted to see the socialists in power at the Centre.
"It was Misra`s dream to see a Socialist government at
the Centre and after the short stint of Chandra Shekhar as
the Prime Minister, he wanted that a socialist leader take
over the reins strongly," Mulayam Singh Yadav said addressing
party workers at the function to mark the first death
anniversary of Misra.

Yadav said that had the socialist activists kept the
morale up in the lifetime of Misra, the picture of socialist
movement in the country would have been different.

"It would be our best tribute to Misra that we take a
resolve for realising his dream," he said asking party workers
to maintain solidarity as relations between workers should be
like that of a family.
Highlighting Misra`s commitment to socialism, Yadav
said that he had an opportunity to become chief minister in
1977 but he turned it down as he feared that it would
have weakened Socialist movement in the state.

Yadav alleged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati
had taken gifts worth Rs 4000 crores on her birthday recetly
and said that by doing so she showed how insensitive she was,
to the plight of the poor.
