Renowned Hindi writer Markandey cremated

Noted Hindi writer Markandey, who passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer in New Delhi, was cremated here on Friday in the presence of family members and grief-stricken literatteurs.

members and grief-stricken literatteurs.
The writer breathed his last at the Rajeev Gandhi Cancer
Institute in the national capital yesterday.
Literary figures like Doodhnath Singh and Shekhar Joshi
were present at the Rasoolabad cremation ground where the
mortal remains of the writer, who made a mark for his
depiction of the Indian rural life, were consigned to flames
in the presence of family members, relatives and a number of
admirers.

Noted for his works like "Hansaa jaaye akela" and "Gulra
ke Baba", Markandey also edited a Hindi journal "Katha" which
has been serving as a platform for emerging literary talents.
