Former Congress MLA Imran Masood has been booked in two cases, including rioting and attempt to murder, in connection with violent clashes in Saharanpur which left three persons dead.

Lucknow: Former Congress MLA Imran Masood has been booked in two cases, including rioting and attempt to murder, in connection with violent clashes in Saharanpur which left three persons dead.

"Two cases have been lodged against Masood, in which the main accused Moharram Alia alias Pappu is also an accused, at Kutubsher police station in Saharanpur" a police spokesman said here on Thursday.

He said that the first case was lodged against Pappu, Masood and mob under Sections 147 (unlawful assembly), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 427 (mischief causing damage), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the IPC.
The case was lodged by Sushil Saini at Kutubsher police station on July 29, he said.

The second case has been lodged against Pappu, Masood and mob under Sections 147, 148 (rioting), 307 (attempt to murder) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).

Son-in-law of Shahi Imam of Delhi`s Jama Masjid Maulana Bukari and MLC Umar ALi is also an accused in this case, which had been lodged by Sardar Gurucharan.
Police said both the cases were being investigated by the crime branch of the district police.
IG (law and order) Amrendra Singh Sengar said that 227 cases have been lodged in connection with the clashes so far.

"The main FIR was lodged by a police inspector after which several other individual cases were lodged which were clubbed with the main one," a senior officer said.
