`Shias involved in zardozi work should be given govt benefits`

Shia Muslims, involved in chickankari and zardozi work, should be provided housing, employment, BPL ration cards and other facilities, a noted cleric of the community said.

Lucknow: Shia Muslims, involved in
chickankari and zardozi work, should be provided housing,
employment, BPL ration cards and other facilities, a noted
cleric of the community on Thursday said.

"The Shia Muslims involved in world famous Chikankari
and zardozi works get a meagre Rs 1,500 per month. I request
you to provide BPL ration cards, housing, employment and
relaxation in electricity bills," Member All India Muslim
Personal Law Board Maulana Jawwad said in a letter to chief
minister Mayawati.

He also alleged that the community was not getting
benefits of government welfare schemes and requested the chief
minister to look into the demands, which were genuine.
