Lucknow: In a bid to develop infrastructure
and provide basic amenities to the rural population,
e-commerce company Snapdeal.com has adopted a village in Uttar
Pradesh.

"As a part of its social responsibility, the company has
adopted Shiv Nagar village where it will address the basic
problems of the people," company CEO Kunal Bahl said.

He said in the first phase the company identified the
issue of unavailability of potable drinking water and has
installed 15 hand pumps in the village.

"As we wanted a long term association we have adopted
the village for a period of five years and in the next phase
the company will be carrying out different activities,
including installation of computers in schools, health care
and books to students," Bahl said.

"We are glad to contribute and support the villagers in
various infrastructure needs such as creating provisions for
drinking water and also help them with necessary inputs for
their upcoming school and hospital in a long-term association
with the community," he added.

Appreciating the efforts being made by the company, local
residents have officially applied to rename the village as
Snapdeal village.
