Lucknow: Samajwadi Party has expedited the selection process of prospective candidates for the state
Assembly elections scheduled in 2012 and is likely to announce its first list by the end of this month.
"The party is likely to announce its first list later this month", a senior party leader said, adding that
plans are afoot to give tickets to retired bureaucrats too.
The names which the party is seriously considering include former chief secretary Akhand Pratap Singh`s daughter Juhi Singh from Lucknow east, retired IAS officer RV Bhaskar from Jalaun and former principal secretary, Vidhan Sabha, RP Pandey from Mirzapur.
"The party had started the selection process of candidates in full swing and tentative names of about 250 candidates have been finalised," he said.
The party had received nearly 5,000 applications and people are still applying for tickets from SP as they know that the end of BSP government is near, a SP spokesman said.
After holding its parliamentary board meeting yesterday, party state president Akhilesh Yadav is personally meeting prospective candidates today at party office, said sources.
