Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has said suspended woman IAS officer Promilla Shankar's allegation that she was being victimised is baseless, misleading and irresponsible.

Justifying its action of suspending the officer, a state government release yesterday said she had gone on five tours abroad in the past one year just after informing the government but without getting her leaves sanctioned.

In a letter to the Union government, Shankar had alleged the actual reason for her suspension was her objection to the master plan of the UP government for "massive urbanisation" by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.

A 1976 batch IAS officer, Shankar, Commissioner of the National Capital Region Cell of UP, was suspended on September nine by the state government.

Going abroad without getting the leaves sanctioned was a violation of rule three of the of the All-India Services rules 1968 as well as the All-India Services (leave) Rules 1955, formulated by the Personnel and Training Department, Government of India, the release said.

It termed her allegation against the state government that she was being victimised as baseless, misleading and irresponsible.

By making the allegation, she had also violated rules of the conduct of services which say members of the service shall maintain absolute integrity and devotion to duty and shall do nothing which is unbecoming of a member of the service, the release said.
