Lucknow: Nearly 24 people were killed and
several injured in Uttar Pradesh due to heavy rains that
lashed the state since Tuesday.
While six persons each were killed in Sitapur and
Chitrakoot districts, three each died in Gonda and Barabanki
and one death each was reported from Fatehpur, Unnao, Kanpur,
Hathras and Lakhimpur, taking the toll to 33 from yesterday`s
nine deaths, a senior official said.
Nearly 24 people were killed and several injured due
to heavy rains in the last 24 hours, officials said.
According to daily report released by Central Water
Commission heavy to moderate rain was recorded in major parts
of the state since yesterday.
Maximum 148.7 mm rainfall was recorded at Katarniya
Ghat in Bahraich district, followed by 148.6 mm in Barabanki
and 105 mm in Sultanpur district, it said.
As per the report 88. 4 mm rainfall was recorded in
Ayodhya (Faizabad), 117 mm in Sharda Nagar in Lakhimpir Kheri,
117 mm in Gonda, 122 mm in Basti, 66.2 in Siddharth Nagar, 58
mm in Balrampur, 77 mm in Bhinga and 82. 6 in Lucknow.
Heavy rainfall has led to rise in level of the major
rivers like Ganga, Ram Ganga, Yamuna , Sharda, Ghaghra and
Rapti across the state.
