Truck driver death: 5 transport personnel arrested

Five personnel of the regional transport office have been arrested for allegedly beating to death a driver who had refused to pay them bribe.

Agra (UP): Five personnel, including a woman
official, of the regional transport office have been arrested
for allegedly beating to death an Andhra Pradesh driver who
had refused to pay them bribe, police said on Sunday.

The five, including the woman assistant regional
transport officer, were yesterday arrested, they said.

The transport personnel have been also suspended
following the development.
Regional transport officer (Agra) V K Sonakia yesterday
suspended them after transporters threatened to go on a strike
on the issue from October 16.

On September 14, T Rama Rao of Andhra Pradesh died after
he was allegedly mercilessly beaten up by the regional
transport team during a checking drive on Runakta highway.
The five personnel had thrashed the driver after he had
expressed his inability to provide them Rs 4,000 for his
overloaded truck.
