Ghaziabad: Two criminals, one of them carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000, were shot dead by police at Indirapuram here, police said Thursday.
The two wanted criminals were killed during a shootout last night, SSP (Ghaziabad) Raghubir Lal said.
Ahsan Alam and his accomplice were travelling on a motorbike when police intercepted them and asked to stop, he said, adding the duo tried to flee. The police followed them
and opened fired at them.
The accused sustained bullet injuries and were declared brought dead at a hospital, he said.
Alam, a resident of Meerut, was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000.
The identity of the other person has not been ascertained yet.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Lal said.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a property dealer wanted in a 1999 murder case.
Vijender Thakur had shot dead a plot holder in 1999 and had sold his plot illegally. Though an arrest warrant was issued against him, he remained at large for 11 years and ran his property business openly in the area, SHO Vijay Nagar Police Station Ashok Rana said.
He was arrested and sent to jail yesterday, Rana said, adding that an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain if policemen had helped Thakur to evade arrest and freely operate
his business in the area.
