Lucknow: Two dreaded dacoits were on Monday
killed in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh police in Chitrakoot
district.

Raja Khan alias Om Prakash and his accomplice Rahul
Tiwari alias Guru were killed in an encounter with the the
Special Task Force in the jungles of Dodamafi in Chitrakoot
district, 275 kms from here, in the wee hours this morning,
Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal told reporters
here.

He said that a 303 police rifle and a DBBL factory
made gun was recovered from the slain dacoits.

"UP and MP police had announced a cash reward of Rs
60,000 on Khan, who had 15 cases against him," he said, adding
that Tiwari, who was wanted in 12 cases, carried a cash reward
of Rs 22,000 announced by the two states.

The STF team was tipped off yesterday that Khan along
with his gang members was camping in the jungles near Tikaria
railway crossing and would be moving towards Dodamafi in the
night.

A trap was laid near railway crossing. The ADG said
that around 2 AM, when the STF team challenged the dacoits
they opened fire on the police party.

"In retaliatory firing, one dacoit identified as Khan
was killed at around 2.20 AM. An hour later another dacoit
Tiwari was also shot dead, while other members of the gang
escaped," Brij Lal said.

Raja Khan entered the ravines to avenge the insult of
his cousin by members of Dadua gang, he said.

Before starting his own group, Khan was an active
member of Munnilal alias Khadag Singh and Gauri Yadav gangs.

"After the two bandits were arrested, Khan regrouped
dacoits and formed his own gang," Brij Lal said.

"The gang was mainly into extortion and was active in
Chitrakoot, Banda and parts of MP," he added.
