Lucknow: Cautioning the opposition parties,
including Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, BSP government in Uttar Pradesh said it would strictly deal with those trying to create law and order problem in the state.
"I want to caution SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and
other political parties that my government will strictly deal
with any attempt to vitiate law and order in the state," Chief Minister Mayawati told reporters here.
Alleging that SP tried to create "jungleraj" in the state
during its three-day agitation, Mayawati said she wanted to
congratulate police and district administration officials for
effectively dealing with the situation.
About Jat agitation in west UP where the protesters are
demanding reservation for the community in government jobs,
Mayawati appealed them not to do anything which could create
inconvenience to people of the state.
The Chief Minister also criticised opposition parties for
opposing the Bill proposing indirect election of mayors and
municipal corporation chairman.
"The opposition parities are only playing politics on the
issue and pressurising the Governor for not giving his assent
to the Bill," she said.
The UP Urban Local Self Government Bill, proposing
indirect elections of mayors and Nagar Palika Parishad
chairmen by its members was passed in the state Assembly last
month leading to a hue and cry by the entire Opposition, which
alleged that it was passed without any debate.
