UP Cong protests blackmail; sets BJP effigy afire
Congress consigned to flames an effigy of the Opposition party while accusing it of resorting to "blackmail" to have its own way.
Lucknow: Lodging a strong protest over the burning of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s effigies by BJP workers, Congress today consigned to flames an effigy of the Opposition party while accusing it of resorting to "blackmail" to have its own way.
Led by former UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Congress workers burnt the representation marked "Murderer of democracy- BJP" and alleged that the saffron party was weakening democracy and harming the image of the country at the international level.
"The stubbornness and language being used by BJP leaders cannot be pardoned.
Parliament is supreme in democracy and all discussions should take place there...However, the reality is that several of its (BJP`s) state governments have a doubtful role in the so called coal scam being raised by them," Joshi alleged.
The party, which never sought the resignations of its own chief ministers in corruption cases, is out to demand that of the honest and capable Prime Minister only to mislead the people, she alleged.
"The party (BJP) is bereft of any concrete issue to go into the coming elections," she also claimed.
