Lucknow: Following the footsteps of AICC
general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who has been interacting with
Dalits to have a first hand idea of the problems faced by
them, the Uttar Pradesh unit of Congress today asked party
workers to hold special programmes in Dalit localities on
Gandhi Jayanti.

"Congressmen have been asked to organise `chaupals` and
joint feasts in dalit majority villages and also make night
halts," party spokesman Subodh Srivastava said in a press
statement here.

UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi would also organise a
`chaupal` and spend the night in a dalit-dominated village in
Meja tehsil on Mirzapur-Allahabad border, he said.

All the district committees will organise conventions in
dalit localities and community feast. The party workers would
interact with the people to know about the problems faced by
them, Srivastava said.
