UP district bans import of poultry products

The Bahraich district administration has banned import of poultry products from Nepal in the wake of bird flu outbreak in that country.

Bahraich (UP): The Bahraich district
administration has banned import of poultry products from
Nepal in the wake of bird flu outbreak in that country.

A six-month ban on import of poultry products from Nepal
has been imposed in view of the outbreak of bird flu in the
neighbouring country, District Magistrate Pinki Jowal said.

An alert has also been sounded on Indo-Nepal border, she
said, adding that orders have been issued to maintain a vigil
in the forest as well as residential areas as a precautionary
measure.

Earlier this month, Nepal had issued a high alert against
bird flu after receiving confirmed reports of avian influenza
in dozens of chickens in Manahara river area of Bhakatapur
district in eastern part of Kathmandu valley.

After some 90 birds died over the period of 2-3 days in a
poultry farm in Manahara, the government had conducted tests
on the birds which confirmed presence of bird flu. Some 500
birds were killed and dozens of eggs were destroyed after the
incident.
