Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 7,099 crore for construction of roads in the state in the current fiscal.

"The government has made a budgetory allocation of Rs 7,099 crore for the construction of roads in the current fiscal of which Rs 3,167 has been released," PWD Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui said during a review meeting held yesterday.

The minister directed that proposals for new works should be prepared and submitted to the government at the earliest.

He said that for construction of roads in districts adjoining the Indo-Nepal border, funds have been received from the 13th Finance Commission for which sanctions should be released within a month.

Siddiqui said the 'Maha Kumbh' festival is scheduled to be held in Allahabad in January 2013 for which proposals for construction of new bridges, flyovers and roads should be prepared at the earliest so that timely sanction of funds could be ensured.
