UP govt announces Rs five lakh exgratia to kin of slain scribe

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh to kin of a journalist, who died after being seriously injured during an attack on cabinet minister Nand Kumar Gupta "Nandi" in Allahabad.

Vijay Pratap Singh, the 36-year-old senior
correspondent with the Indian Express, succumbed to his
injuries at a hospital in Delhi yesterday.
Singh was seriously injured during the attack on Gupta
in Allahabad on July 12.

"The CM has announced a financial assistance of Rs
five lakh to family members of Vijay Pratap Singh who died
during treatment in Delhi yesterday," an official spokesman
said here.

Initially, he was admitted to a private hospital in
Allahabad and was later shifted to Army hospital at New Delhi.
The blast outside Gupta`s house killed one man and
injured seven persons, including the minister and the
journalist.

Police had arrested two associates of a jailed local
Samajwadi Party leader for their alleged involvement in the
bomb attack.
