Agra: UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday said his government was changing the "anti-farmers" decisions taken by the previous Mayawati-led regime.

"We are changing the anti-farmers decisions taken by the previous regime," Yadav said after inaugurating a new production unit of mustard oil at Shamsabad town, about 25 kms from here.

To facilitate the growth of farmers, the Samajwadi Party government lay an emphasis on agro-based industries.

UP produced five lakh litres of milk and was its largest producer, exporting to Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, but the state was lagging behind in the production of mustard oil. The government was trying to lessen this discrepancy.

Referring to the tourism potential of Agra, he said the state government was developing suitable infrastructure to encourage the tourism industry in the city.

A Rs 140 crore plan had been sanctioned for beautification of the area surrounding Taj Mahal and an inner city ring road was being considered.

Problems faced by residents due to inadequate power are being addressed and the government is looking at providing more feeders and transformers.

His government was in favour of an international airport at Agra and the construction of a barrage over Yamuna, he also said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister attended a theatrical performance in the city. He made a short helicopter trip to Fatehpur Sikri, to the shrine of Sheikh Salim Chisti, as well.
