Meerut: The Uttar Pradesh government has shelved plans of constructing the proposed Dr B R Ambedkar international airport at Partapur here, a senior official said.
The decision has been taken on the basis of the feasibility study conducted by the Advisory Expenditure Committee appointed by the state government. "Orders have been issued to the civic authorities concerned to drop all plans regarding the construction of the airport," State Civil Aviation Department Director Devendra Swarup said.
In its report, the committee cited difficulties in acquisition of land for the project and recommended against the construction, Swarup informed. The state government had planned to build an international airport here to manage the spurt of air traffic
and to cater to the industrial towns in western Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring Uttarakhand.
