UP Govt for CBI probe into petro products` adulteration

The Uttar Pradesh government has recommended a CBI probe into cases of adulteration of petroleum products detected in the state during a nation-wide drive carried out by the agency last week.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government
has recommended a CBI probe into cases of adulteration of
petroleum products detected in the state during a nation-wide
drive carried out by the agency last week.

The state government has issued a notification for a
CBI inquiry into cases of adulteration of petroleum products
detected in Mugalsarai on May 17, official sources said here
today.

The notification came after the CBI had requested the
state government to transfer these cases to it.

A request had been sent to the state government for
transferring three cases pertaining to the adulteration of
petroleum products to the CBI for investigation, agency`s
Joint Director Javeed Ahmad said Thursday.

He had said the request was made as these cases might
have inter-state ramifications and there was possibility of
involvement of IOC officials.

As a part of the special drive, surprise checks were
carried out by the CBI at the premises of three transporters
of oil companies in Chandauli district.

During checking of the premises of a transporter, five
tankers were seized and handed over to police.

The tankers, which were kept in the sealed premises of
the transporter under the custody of the police, were stolen
on May 18.

This showed the strong influence of the organised gang
involved in the adulteration of petroleum products, Ahmad had
said.

A case was registered and five policemen were placed
under suspension in this connection.

Similar seizures were carried out at two more places
and FIRs were lodged.
