UP govt seals agreement for construction of Buddha statue

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday finalised an agreement with Maitreya Project for construction of 200-feet Lord Buddha statue in Kushinagar district.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday finalised an agreement with Maitreya Project for construction of 200-feet Lord Buddha statue in Kushinagar district.

The decision in this regard was taken at the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

As per the agreement, the proposed height the bronze statue has been scaled down from 500 feet to 200 feet due to some technical reasons, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan told reporters.

He said that 250 acres of land was given for Maitreya project on which construction will start soon.
