Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party on Sunday accused the Mayawati government of trying to crush their three-day protest against the "misrule" of the BSP government, saying over 15,000 party workers have been arrested across the state
ahead of the agitation.
"SP`s three-day agitation is starting from tomorrow and the state government has spared no effort to crush it as 15,000 to 20,000 workers had been arrested in the last three days," party head Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters here.
"Whatever efforts the government make to crush the agitation, SP workers will not bow down," he said.
Yadav said during emergency period in 1975, efforts to crush agitation against misrule led to the ouster of a popular leader like Indira Gandhi.
"Similar situation prevails here and after Assembly polls, Mayawati will be routed," he claimed.
He alleged that during a recent protest, lawyers suffered head injuries after they were cane-charged by police.
"We are preparing a list of policemen who hit lawyers on their head. When SP will form the government, cases will be lodged against them and they will be jailed," he said.
