Lucknow: The UP Haj Committee Friday demanded the Centre to scrap the new arrangement of international passport instead of pilgrim passport for the Hajis.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, UP Haj Committee chairman Naseemuddin Siddiqui said the arrangement of international passport instead of pilgrim
passport is causing inconvenience to the Hajis because it often deprive them of a chance for going on the pilgrimage, a release said.
The government has asked all intending Haj pilgrims to obtain international passports -- which has become mandatory for endorsement of visa -- before applying for the Haj 2010, in accordance with the decision of the Saudi Government.
Earlier a Haji used to go on the pilgrimage on a temporary pilgrim passport, valid for travel to Saudi Arabia during Haj period only.
